A Red Deer tattoo studio is making a significant impact by raising funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. Dylan Brown, owner of Bad and Bougie Studio in downtown Red Deer, partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society’s CIBC Run for the Cure for a special tattoo fundraiser called Ink For the Cure this weekend.
For $50, community members could visit the studio on Saturday or Sunday to choose from a selection of tattoos. Half of the proceeds will go to the CIBC Run for the Cure, scheduled for Sunday, October 6, at Bower Ponds. All funds raised from the run will support breast cancer research and initiatives.
Brown shared his personal connection to the cause, stating, “My mom battled cancer a few times. Cancer is abrupt and affects families in many ways. It’s emotional when considering the attachment people have with their loved ones. Creating memories through tattoos is one of the best things I could do.”
With 17 years of experience as a tattoo artist, Brown previously owned Art and Soul Tattoo in downtown Red Deer before moving away. Upon his return, he discovered that his former studio location was available. “I called the building owner about the space, and she said I could have it. Now here I am again—full circle. It’s pretty cool,” he said. He officially opened Bad and Bougie Studio last December.
Brown has always been passionate about art, despite being told in school that he wouldn’t succeed as an artist. “Reaching this point feels like a victory over those who doubted me,” he said. He also expressed pride in his 15-year-old daughter, who is now following in his footsteps.
The CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada’s largest single-day, volunteer-led event supporting breast cancer awareness. Red Deer will join several communities across the country in this event on October 6. Funds raised will support breast cancer research, provide essential support services, influence healthy public policies, and offer reliable information for all Canadians facing this disease.
