ADAMS, Mass. — Hardline Studio officially opened its doors on Friday, offering a range of original tattoos by owner Thomas Buckley. For Buckley, this has been a dream come true.
With over 15 years of experience as a tattoo artist, Buckley saw many of his designs proudly worn by attendees at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which included members of the Board of Selectmen.
“It got into me,” Buckley explained when asked about his journey into tattooing. “I was drawing pictures, and it just happened. People kept asking me to tattoo them, even when I was out with friends and family.”
The studio’s name, Hardline, was chosen by Buckley during high school. “I made business cards back then. They were dorky, but I wish I still had them,” he recalled.
Selectwomen Christine Hoyt and Ann M. Bartlett, along with Selectman Joseph John Nowak Jr., congratulated Buckley on the grand opening and welcomed him to the town’s business community. “We want to thank you for making this investment in the town of Adams,” Hoyt said.
Located at 38 Park St., the studio has transformed from a former tanning salon into a sleek, modern space. The interior features a primarily black color scheme with accents of red, and Buckley’s ballpoint pen artwork adorns the walls.
Buckley described the location as “prime” after a two-year search in his hometown of Pittsfield. The building, owned by Matthew and Ashley Lavelle, includes an Airbnb upstairs, offering discounted rates for out-of-town clients.
“It was just a perfect fit,” Buckley said, noting that the landlords ensured everything was smooth and easy.
The front reception area will feature arcade games, and the tattoo chair is set up in a private, curtained area. There is also a consultation space, and in a separate room, Buckley plans to create custom rugs, a craft he discovered on TikTok and aims to excel in.
Buckley emphasized his commitment to working with customers to create their desired tattoos, offering designs in every style. “If you want a tattoo from me, don’t be afraid. Speak up; your art matters here,” he said.
The shop prioritizes the use of sterile, disposable products that never touch him, the floor, or anything else. The tattoo ink is carefully selected to accommodate preferences and allergies. “I use organic, vegan, gluten-free, all American-made stuff,” Buckley said.
Buckley’s passion for art has been lifelong, with some formal study in the field. The grand opening saw many former clients showcasing his work, including a friend who proudly displayed a Grateful Dead piece done over a decade ago that has retained its color.
Hardline Studio welcomes both walk-ins and larger projects requiring multiple sessions. The studio can be found on Facebook and contacted via messenger, at 413-412-2594, or at [email protected], with email being the preferred method for booking.
“I’m here for you,” Buckley said.
