Tattoo artists from around the globe are set to gather in York for an international convention this weekend, on June 22 and 23.
Artists from countries including Iceland, New Zealand, Scotland, France, Ireland, Portugal, and Germany will be present at the York Tattoo Convention. The event, organized by Pamela Green and her daughters, Emily Rose and Georgia, will be held at New Earswick Bowls Club and feature 180 artists and traders. Entry is free for all attendees.
“We used to charge an entry fee, but since Covid, we realized that people can’t afford to spend much on a day out,” Pamela said. “We decided to make it free so that visitors can spend their money on the artists and traders instead.”
Last year, the convention attracted around 4,000 visitors. Pamela expects the numbers to increase this year.
Pamela is a seasoned tattoo artist with nearly 30 years of experience. She has participated in conventions nationwide and internationally, including in Malta and Cyprus. She operates ABH Tattooing in Scunthorpe with her husband Wayne and their three daughters, who are also tattoo artists.
The York Tattoo Convention began in Catterick at the Army barracks under the name ‘Ink for Heroes.’ It later moved to York Racecourse, but due to high costs, it eventually found a home at New Earswick Bowls Club, where it has been held for several years.
This year, the convention aims to raise funds for New Earswick Bowls Club, York Special Olympics, and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as a gesture of gratitude to the community.
