TEA, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A Sioux Falls nonprofit has made a significant impact with its latest fundraising event.
Finding Better Tomorrows, founded by Madison Kyle of Encompass Health in Sioux Falls, aims to improve access to mental healthcare.
“I don’t want to say the mentally ill and tattoo shops go together, but it’s a yin and a yang sometimes,” Kyle commented.
In May, the nonprofit hosted a fundraiser named Ink For Tomorrows at Red Arbor Tattoos and Fine Art in Tea. The event successfully raised over $27,000 by providing 180 tattoos that serve as reminders of the importance of mental health.
“It’s not just a tattoo and a really cool design on somebody, but it’s when they look and have that smile knowing it’s changed them, knowing that they see themselves differently, knowing that it can give them confidence or give that story,” said Cory Claussen, owner of Red Arbor Tattoos.
Photojournalist Sam Tastad attended the fundraiser and documented the experiences of those who participated in this meaningful cause.
