Sunbury is gearing up for an inaugural tattoo exhibition that promises to be a vibrant affair, drawing in local talent as well as artists from out-of-state. The Ink in the Rink Tattoo Expo is set to kick off at noon from June 7 to June 9 at the James R. Eister Youth and Community Center on 149 Memorial Drive.
Organized by Chris Bucher, a local from Sunbury, the event boasts a lineup of 150 tattoo artists, 25 bands, and several painters. Among the local tattoo studios represented are Dapper Tattoo, Tranquility Tatto and Art Studio, Darkline Tattoo, Knuckles and Needles, and Body Mods Ink.
Joseph Stewart, owner of Darkline Tattoo, expressed excitement about the opportunity the expo presents for local artists, describing it as a chance to shine for those who may be relatively unknown. Stewart, who has been in the tattoo industry for 18 years, credits his high school teachers for his artistic journey.
Bucher noted the growing popularity of tattoos in the region as part of his motivation for organizing the event. He sees the expo as not only a showcase of talent but also a networking opportunity for artists and potential clients.
The expo will feature competitions with 20 awards up for grabs, including categories like best coverup, best minimalist, and best portrait. Custom-made Edison bulb trophies will be handed out to the winners, paying homage to Sunbury’s history and Thomas Edison.
With a cover charge of $10 for a single day or $20 for access to all three days, attendees are encouraged to check out the attending artists and book appointments in advance.
Bucher expressed hope for making Ink in the Rink an annual tradition, pending positive feedback from both artists and attendees.
