The live-action One Piece TV series on Netflix is currently filming its second season. Taz Skylar, who plays Sanji in the series, recently revealed a special tattoo designed by Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece.
In an interview with the YouTube channel Serieously at the 2024 Paris Fan Festival, Skylar shared a unique experience. He asked Oda, who is an executive producer for the show, to design a tattoo for him. Oda agreed and created an original design.
“I wanted a One Piece tattoo for a while,” Skylar said. “So, I asked Oda if he could draw something specific, and he did. Every part of the figure’s body is a letter, all of which together spell One Piece.” Although the video doesn’t show the tattoo clearly, Skylar’s social media posts provide a better look. The tattoo features a small skull figure with the “E” from “One Piece” as its body.
Skylar shared his excitement on Instagram. “I finally got my One Piece tattoo,” he wrote. “And I got it in the same way I’ve gotten all my tattoos… by randomly walking into a cool shop in a new town and finding a pure soul to etch a memory on my skin. Thank you, Zumi Mathieu, for being a dream and for jumping straight into my two ideas. Can anyone guess why I got it on my leg though?”
Fans quickly guessed the reason behind the tattoo’s placement. Sanji, Skylar’s character, uses his feet as his primary weapons. The tattoo’s location on his leg adds a special touch, especially knowing Oda designed it. In April, Skylar and other live-action actors from One Piece answered various fan questions, from their favorite anime to their anime waifus.
