Australian actor Samuel Davies has embarked on a journey to remove his tattoos, valued at $10,000, following feedback from Netflix that impacted his career prospects.
Davies, known for his role as the body double of Colin Donnell’s character Tommy Merlyn on the TV series “Arrow,” disclosed in a viral TikTok video that Netflix declined to cast him due to his sleeve tattoo, citing concerns about the daily effort required to conceal it during filming.
Expressing his initial fondness for his tattoos, Davies recounted his transition from another career path to acting, culminating in an opportunity on a Netflix series where he secured a role as the main actor’s double. However, the streaming platform’s decision prompted him to initiate the removal process.
Over the past two years, Davies has undergone six arduous tattoo removal sessions, each costing between $500 to $600. These efforts aim to eradicate all traces of his sleeve tattoo, which originally incurred a $10,000 expense.
Detailing the procedure, Davies explained the eight-week interval between sessions, emphasizing the gradual fading of ink over time. Despite the time-consuming and painful nature of the process, he remains committed to its completion.
In the video, Davies shared the personal significance behind some of his tattoos, including symbols representing milestones and tributes to icons like Bruce Lee and Kobe Bryant.
Netflix’s decision, though disappointing, has not dissuaded Davies from pursuing his acting aspirations. Encouraged by the supportive feedback from his followers, he revealed his continued involvement in various projects, noting that his fading tattoos are now easier to conceal during filming.
