Collaborating with Beyoncé on her rendition of the Beatles’ classic “Blackbird” has left a lasting impression on her fellow musicians.
The Grammy-winning artist’s reinterpretation of the iconic song, featured on her latest chart-topping album, “Cowboy Carter,” enlisted the talents of four Black country singers: Brittney Spencer, Reyna Roberts, Tanner Adell, and Tiera Kennedy. In a recent revelation, they disclosed that they commemorated their experience recording the track by getting matching tattoos.
Contrary to opting for identical designs, the musicians chose to personalize their blackbird-themed tattoos, which were skillfully inked by tattoo artist Hannah Matthews. Roberts shared the anecdote during an interview with Billboard at the CMT Awards.
“We actually got matching tattoos,” Roberts disclosed. “Mine isn’t exactly matching, but we all got a symbolism of our blackbird.” Her tattoo features black wings alongside the inscription, “Thou shall reign heavenly fire.”
Roberts provided a detailed glimpse of her tattoo on Instagram, showcasing Adell’s blackbird as well. Meanwhile, Kennedy flaunted her tattoo in an Instagram reel, depicting a bird in flight donning a cowboy hat, inspired by their rendition of “Blackbiird” and Kennedy’s recent single, “I Ain’t a Cowgirl.”
Matthews also took to social media to share photos of the tattoos, including close-ups and portraits of the singers. Reflecting on the experience, Matthews expressed gratitude for the opportunity to mark this milestone in the artists’ careers.
“The remake recently received praise from Beatles member Paul McCartney, who penned the original track.
“I am so happy with @beyonce’s version of my song ‘Blackbird,'” McCartney expressed on Instagram. “I think she does a magnificent version of it, and it reinforces the civil rights message that inspired me to write the song in the first place. I think Beyoncé has done a fab version and would urge anyone who has not heard it yet to check it out. You are going to love it!”
