In a heartwarming display of community spirit, Jason Baker, a well-regarded tattoo artist based in Auckland, has delivered on his pledge to support a charitable cause. Last August, Abbey Manson, proprietor of Azurite Tattoo Studio in Invercargill, orchestrated a successful flash day fundraiser for the Hawthorndale Care Village campaign. Among the dedicated team of artists who lent their talents to this noble endeavor was Baker, known for his expertise in intricate realism.
Baker’s involvement didn’t stop with his participation on the fundraising day. His generous contribution extended to offering his services as a raffle prize, with tickets priced at a modest $20 each. The coveted prize? A tattoo session valued at $1500. Now, months later, Baker has returned to Invercargill to fulfill his commitment, working on a special project for Errin Marnel: a stunning depiction of a luna moth.
Typically tasked with immortalizing memories of loved ones, replicating art, or capturing the essence of majestic wildlife, Baker embraced the unique challenge presented by the luna moth, with its distinctive green hue. Despite the departure from his usual repertoire, Baker approached the task with enthusiasm and skill.
Beyond the artistry, Baker was drawn to the cause driving the fundraiser: the establishment of a care facility designed to provide a supportive environment for individuals living with dementia. Reflecting on his motivation, Baker revealed that dementia had touched the life of “someone close” to him, making the cause deeply personal.
“It always feels good to be able to help,” Baker remarked, underscoring the significance of using his talents to make a positive impact within his community.
Baker’s commitment to both his craft and charitable endeavors serves as a shining example of how individuals can come together to support meaningful causes, enriching the lives of those in need.
