Scottish Secretary Ian Murray has announced a new partnership with the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo to promote Scotland globally. The agreement, signed during Tartan Week in Washington DC, will see 30 performers from the Tattoo, including pipers, drummers, fiddle players, and dancers, showcase Scotland’s culture outside the US Capitol building.
The performance is part of the Scotland Office’s efforts to boost “Brand Scotland” and encourage economic growth through international promotion of Scottish products. Murray emphasized the importance of leveraging Scotland’s international reputation and cultural icons like the Tattoo to drive global growth.
“This partnership will help us champion Brand Scotland worldwide,” Murray said. The Tattoo’s presence in the US and future trade missions to Japan and Australia aim to attract investment and raise Scotland’s profile globally.
Jason Barrett, CEO of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, expressed excitement about the partnership, especially during their 75th anniversary year. He noted that showcasing Scotland’s heritage on the world stage is central to the Tattoo’s mission. The performers will also participate in the Tartan Day parade in New York on April 5.
