Actress Kate Hudson is no stranger to body art, but even she has her limits when it comes to tattoos—especially those inked on her own children. During a recent appearance on The Martha Stewart Podcast, Hudson revealed her strong disapproval of a particular tattoo her eldest son, Ryder Robinson, recently acquired.
Describing the design as a “scribble” on the back of his calf, the Almost Famous star did not hold back her feelings. “I’m like, nope. That’s coming off,” Hudson said. “It’s gotta go, and he’s gonna get it taken off.”
While the 21-year-old has several tattoos, including ones that pay tribute to his half-siblings—Cheyenne Robinson, Bingham Hawn Bellamy, and Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa—this particular piece of body art did not earn his mother’s approval.
Hudson, 44, joked that while she has no issue with tattoos in general, she has one major rule when it comes to placement. “I’m just like, just stay away from the neck, you know—neck down,” she said. “Just help me out. I don’t want face tattoos, please.”
Despite her stance on her son’s ink, Hudson admitted she has only one tattoo of her own: a small star on her foot. She recalled wanting a larger design but ultimately backing out due to nerves. “I was a wimp,” she confessed. “It was supposed to be much bigger, and then I got one star and I’m like, I’m out. I’m done.”
The tattoo, however, carries sentimental meaning. Hudson shared that her mother, legendary actress Goldie Hawn, has a matching tattoo in the same spot. “We have the same size foot. We have the same-looking foot. Like, it’s literally identical, which is so cute,” Hudson said. “For her 60th birthday, she got a heart right where my star is on her foot, so when we put our feet together, they look exactly the same.”
While Ryder’s controversial tattoo remains for now, it appears Hudson is hoping it won’t be permanent for long.
