The Sims 4’s New Expansion Pack Brings Tattoo Artist and Pottery Careers

by Jessica

Electronic Arts’ upcoming The Sims 4 expansion, Businesses & Hobbies, introduces exciting new features designed to unlock creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in players. The expansion, set in the new town of Nordhaven, offers Sims the chance to pursue careers in tattoo artistry and pottery, opening up fresh business opportunities.

A standout addition is the tattooing skill, allowing Sims to launch their own tattoo shops. In Tattoo Paint Mode, players can create custom tattoos using stamps and stencils, which can then be shared through The Sims 4 gallery, providing a personalized touch to the game’s already rich customization features.

In addition to tattooing, pottery is another key skill introduced in this expansion. Sims can craft functional items like tea sets, planters, and incense burners, which can be sold for profit, adding another avenue for hobbyists to turn their passions into businesses.

Electronic Arts describes the expansion as a way to empower players to “follow your dreams” and build a business that aligns with their Sim’s interests. Whether it’s creating handmade pottery or offering tattoo services, players can transform their Sim’s skills into a thriving venture. For those looking to start small, the expansion allows businesses to be run from a residential lot, with designated spaces for setting up shop. Alternatively, Sims can choose to build their business on the new Small Business Venue Lot for a more formal setup.

A new feature, the Ticket Kiosk, allows players to decide how their business operates, including charging customers either a one-time fee or on an hourly basis. Players will also be able to hire staff—either from their Sim’s household or from outside—adding a layer of management to the gameplay. Running a family business could bring its own drama, while hiring the right employees may offer fresh opportunities.

As Sims progress in their business, they will unlock Business Perks, which provide new interactions and effects. Players can guide their Sims along one of three alignment paths—Dreamer, Schemer, or Neutral—shaping the direction of their business and influencing their personal life. The Schemer path may favor taking risks, while the Dreamer path emphasizes ethical business practices. For those who prefer to focus solely on earning Simoleons, the Neutral option offers a more straightforward approach.

The expansion promises to offer a dynamic blend of creativity, business strategy, and life simulation, giving players the freedom to pursue their dreams while navigating the challenges of running a successful business.
