Craig Melvin Sports Temporary Tattoo of Savannah Guthrie’s Face After Losing Bet

by Jessica

Craig Melvin, co-anchor of Today, is likely to think twice before placing a bet again after a wager with his colleague, Savannah Guthrie, backfired. The 45-year-old broadcaster now finds himself sporting a temporary tattoo of Guthrie’s face on the back of his neck, a result of losing a bet over a football game.

The bet, which centered around the Washington Commanders (Melvin’s team) and the Philadelphia Eagles (Guthrie’s team), ended in a loss for Melvin when the Eagles triumphed over the Commanders. “This is why we don’t gamble, kids!” Melvin quipped during a live broadcast on January 27, just before Today co-hosts Carson Daly and Al Roker assisted in applying the tattoo.

Fortunately for Melvin, the tattoo is temporary, though Daly jokingly warned that the ink might prove more resilient than expected. “My 10-year-old daughter wore one of these fake tattoos, and we couldn’t get it off for six months,” Daly said. “So, Craig, if you’re at tubby time tonight and it doesn’t come off easily, don’t worry.”

Guthrie, who played a central role in the playful wager, approved of the tattoo. “Oh my God, it looks so good, Craig,” she said, proudly holding up an Eagles logo and wearing a matching team cap. Melvin responded with humor, remarking, “I wish I could see it,” to which Guthrie quipped, “Don’t worry, you’ll see it on TV!”

In addition to the tattoo, Melvin received a Philadelphia Eagles jersey bearing the name of running back Saquon Barkley. Barkley played a key role in the Eagles’ 55-24 victory over the Commanders on January 26, scoring a critical touchdown during the NFC Championship game.

Looking ahead, the Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The game is poised to be an exciting matchup, with Kendrick Lamar slated to headline the halftime show.

The Eagles and Chiefs met last year in the Super Bowl, where Travis Kelce and the Chiefs emerged victorious, leaving the Eagles hopeful for a different outcome this time around.

One thing is certain, though: Craig Melvin will not be betting against the Eagles in the future. Today airs weekdays at 7 a.m. ET on NBC.
