As music legend Rod Stewart celebrates his 80th birthday this week, the “Sailing” hitmaker continues to defy age, proudly showcasing his impressive collection of tattoos. Known for his love of beach trips and displaying his abs, Stewart’s tattoos hold deep personal significance, including a heartfelt tribute to his beloved football team.
In 2023, Stewart added a new piece to his upper arm, dedicating it to Glasgow Celtic, his favorite football club. The tattoo, inked in Auckland, New Zealand, features the words “Glasgow” and “Celtic” alongside a Scottish lion, which has adorned his skin for decades. Stewart shared the moment on Instagram, writing: “Getting a ‘Glasgow Celtic’ tattoo in Auckland to celebrate my beloved team. You’re always in my heart @celticfc.”
But Stewart’s tattoos are more than just a passion for sport. They also carry sentimental value tied to his family. In an interview with The Sun, Stewart explained the emotional connection behind his tattoos, particularly the one commemorating his late father. On one shoulder, Stewart sports a thistle tattoo, done in 1990 to honor his father, who he held dear.
Stewart’s love for his sons, Alastair and Aiden, is also reflected in his body art. He revealed that his boys, including young Aiden, share his fondness for Gaelic and Celtic tattoos. “All my boys have something Gaelic or Celtic tattooed on them,” Stewart shared. “Even little Aiden can’t wait to have his done, though he’s only 12, so he’ll have a while to wait.”
Rod Stewart’s tattoos, each with its unique meaning, offer a glimpse into the deeply personal connections that shape the icon’s life, from his football fandom to his cherished family memories.
