A local tattoo artist has been arrested for his involvement in a major drug trafficking operation, with authorities uncovering narcotics disguised as cookies worth an estimated ₹2 crore.
Rakshith Ramesh Melappanavar, a resident of Chokkananahalli, was taken into custody by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) following a raid at his home last week. The arrest came after police acted on reliable intelligence about his ties to a sophisticated drug network, according to reports.
During the raid, CCB’s Anti-Narcotics Wing seized a variety of illegal substances from Melappanavar’s residence, including 3.5 grams of hydro ganja, 130 grams of charas, 40 strips of LSD, and 2.3 grams of MDMA. The drugs were allegedly disguised as biscuits, a method used to smuggle narcotics from countries like Thailand and Malaysia, the police revealed.
Authorities believe Melappanavar was a key distributor in a cross-border narcotics operation, receiving shipments via sea freight, coordinated by an accomplice operating from another state. Investigations also linked the network to other regions, including Goa, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana, where additional substances were sourced.
Police suspect Melappanavar had been stockpiling drugs in preparation for the New Year celebrations, with plans to distribute them during festivities in Goa. Furthermore, it is believed he used his tattoo business as a front, offering delivery services to expand his illicit trade.
Melappanavar, who is reportedly still learning the drug trade under the guidance of a key associate, was arrested before he could depart for Goa. A local court has placed him in police custody, and investigations are ongoing as authorities continue to search for his accomplice.
This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in Bengaluru’s ongoing efforts to dismantle narcotics trafficking networks operating in the region.
