In a heartfelt tribute to veterans, BroadWing Tattoos and Body Piercing is set to host its ninth annual Tattoo Marathon on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11. This event aims to raise funds to support veterans’ care and services.
Owner Tyler Brott initiated the Tattoo Marathon as a way to honor his father, David D. Brott, a Vietnam War veteran who passed away from lung cancer linked to Agent Orange exposure in 2014. The marathon not only commemorates his father’s legacy but also serves as a platform for community support.
Jax Foster, the shop’s office manager and assistant piercer, emphasized the importance of this event in the community. “This marathon has become a way for us to give back and show our appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans,” she said.
The marathon will take place at BroadWing’s location at 125 N. Main in downtown Bowling Green from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Participants can enjoy complimentary food provided by Tyler’s sister, Prudy Brott, owner of Sunset Bistro.
For a donation of $150, participants will receive a one-hour appointment for a small custom tattoo, aftercare instructions, and a t-shirt. All proceeds from the event will be directed to the VA Ann Arbor Health Center. The shop encourages attendees to submit their tattoo designs about two weeks in advance to allow artists ample time for preparation.
Foster noted that “you can get whatever you want,” making it a unique opportunity for participants to express their individuality through body art.
Three talented artists will be on hand to tattoo throughout the day, with some walk-in slots available for those seeking piercings or spontaneous tattoo sessions. The marathon draws a diverse crowd, including veterans, their families, and loyal customers who return year after year.
The funds raised during this event have a direct impact on veterans’ lives. “We sit down as a whole shop and decide where that money goes,” Foster explained. Last year, the marathon raised an impressive $7,000, contributing to a total of over $50,000 since its inception. These funds have supported essential services, including mental health care, transportation, and medical assistance for local veterans.
BroadWing’s Tattoo Marathon not only celebrates the artistry of tattoos and piercings but also stands as a meaningful gesture of gratitude toward those who have served in the military. By participating in this event, community members can contribute to a worthy cause while honoring the sacrifices of veterans.
