UFC star Max Holloway is known not just for his skills in the octagon but also for his distinctive tattoos. In a recent interview with GQ, the featherweight champion shared the deeper significance behind his striking back tattoo, which features both an angel wing and a gargoyle wing.
Holloway, who has a passion for tattoos, described his body art as an ongoing journey. Despite promising himself that his last tattoo would be the final addition, he continues to find new designs that resonate with him.
The wings on his back symbolize the Yin and Yang concept, representing the duality of life. “My second tattoo was my wings; I was eighteen. It’s good and bad—angel and gargoyle wing. It’s kind of a Yin and Yang thing. That tattoo is about balance. In this world, we need balance and peace,” Holloway explained. The tattoo took four hours to complete in one session, showcasing his commitment to its meaning.
In the lead-up to his upcoming fight against Ilia Topuria, Holloway’s duality theme resonates with fellow fighter Conor McGregor. Although McGregor is known for his outspoken nature, he has expressed support for Holloway ahead of the title bout.
McGregor, currently in Spain for a BKFC event, took a jab at Topuria, saying, “F*** him up.” He further dismissed Topuria’s Spanish heritage, highlighting his German and Georgian roots while aligning himself with Holloway.
As the UFC heads to Abu Dhabi for an exciting fight card, fans are eager to see Holloway defend his title. This match will not only showcase his boxing skills but also represent the balance he embodies, both in life and in the octagon.
