A heartwarming display of community spirit is set to unfold at a special fundraising event in honor of Christi Taylor, a 29-year-old woman battling lupus and severe anemia. Despite her health challenges, Taylor continues to inspire those around her with her optimism and strength.
The event, spearheaded by local tattoo artist and wrestling champion Daryl Naidu, along with Twitch streamer Jade Manuel, promises to be a celebration of solidarity. It will feature live music, food stalls, a Halloween-themed atmosphere, and a wide array of tattoo opportunities—all aimed at raising funds for Taylor’s medical treatment.
Naidu, well-known in the Chatsworth community, expressed his excitement about the upcoming fundraiser, which he believes will draw significant support—even from those who cannot attend in person.
“The fundraiser will be held on Saturday, October 26, at 489 Shamrock Road, Kempton Park, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. I’m originally from Durban, but I chose Johannesburg for this event because it’s where Christi lives,” Naidu explained. “It all started during a live interview I was doing with Jade Manuel, who runs the Slayer Twitch stream. Christi reached out to us, sharing her diagnosis and the struggles she faces. Despite everything, she stays positive, and her story really touched me. That’s when I came up with the idea for a fundraiser to support her.”
During the live interview, Manuel suggested a venue for the event, and Naidu immediately knew several tattoo artists who would be eager to participate. The result? A tattoo-a-thon, where attendees can get tattoos smaller than 5 cm at a reduced cost. Naidu added that all funds raised from the event would go directly to supporting Taylor’s medical needs.
“This is our way of giving back to someone truly deserving—a young woman with a heart of gold. We’re thrilled by the support we’ve already received from reputable brands and companies, exceeding our expectations. A special thanks goes to RRD Tattoo Supplies for their generous contributions and sponsorships,” Naidu said.
The funds raised will help cover Taylor’s ongoing medical expenses, including doctor visits, lab tests, and specialized treatments for lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that affects her organs. Her condition is further complicated by severe anemia, leading to weight loss and fatigue.
For those unable to attend in person, the event will be live-streamed online, offering viewers worldwide the chance to participate and donate.
Naidu concluded, “Let’s come together and make a real difference in Christi’s life. This fundraiser is not just about showcasing local tattoo talent, but also about demonstrating the strength of our community’s support and unity.”
