Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker Sean Penn has marked his unwavering support for Ukraine with a new tattoo of the Ukrainian trident symbol, according to Serhii Leshchenko, an advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Penn, who has visited Ukraine nine times since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, has shown his solidarity with the country in various ways. His most recent visit included a stop at Ukraine’s 3rd Special Operations Regiment, where he expressed his confidence in Ukraine’s eventual victory in a video message shared by the military.

In June 2022, Penn returned to Ukraine, visiting settlements devastated by Russian aggression. During this visit, President Zelenskyy honored Penn’s efforts by presenting him with the Order of Merit, III degree. On his third visit, Penn made an emotional gesture by gifting his Oscar statuette to Zelenskyy as a symbol of belief in Ukraine’s victory. The statuette is set to remain in Ukraine until the end of the war, reinforcing Penn’s commitment to standing with the country during this challenging time.
