Tattoo aficionados are predominantly enamored with their ink, recent findings unveil.
Rachelle Gammon, a dedicated tattoo artist, ardently pursues her craft, considering it a fulfillment of her clients’ dreams. “In terms of job satisfaction, it’s akin to realizing a long-held aspiration for the client,” expressed Gammon.
The tattoo subculture in Canada is witnessing a surge in popularity. According to Narrative Research, which surveyed 1,200 Canadians about their tattoo experiences, a significant revelation surfaced.
“A third of Canadians sport at least one tattoo,” stated Margaret Chapman of Narrative Research. “Merely four per cent of tattooed individuals express a desire to part ways with their ink.”
Among those adorned with tattoos:
- 49 per cent proudly flaunt their body art
- 27 per cent cherish their tattoos privately
- 27 per cent maintain a neutral stance
- Six per cent have outgrown their tattoos
- Four per cent contemplate tattoo removal
Gammon emphasized the evolving nature of tattooing, attributing the current trend to heightened artistic involvement. “With greater emphasis on artistry, individuals are more inclined to realize the tattoo of their dreams, precisely as envisioned,” she remarked.
Devin Sherrington, a fitness instructor, can recount his tattoo journey succinctly. “My first tattoo, obtained at 21, is a small dragon etched on my arm,” disclosed Sherrington. Nearly four decades later, his upper body boasts an extensive tapestry of ink, each piece resonating with personal passions or familial anecdotes.
“One side reflects medieval themes, while the other embodies sci-fi elements, reflecting my profound affinity for geek culture,” shared Sherrington. “Additionally, I’ve inscribed a poignant quote from John Krakauer’s ‘Into the Wild’: ‘How important it is, not to be strong, but to feel strong.'”
Chapman further delineated the demographic breakdown, noting, “Thirty-eight per cent of women and 28 per cent of men report having tattoos.”
Addressing the endurance of the tattooing process, Gammon opined, “Women generally exhibit a higher pain threshold.”
Lena Carriere, adorned with multiple tattoos, attested to this sentiment. “Many liken it to a scratch on a sunburn,” she remarked, highlighting the minimal discomfort associated with the process and underscoring its profound significance, devoid of any remorse.
