Thomas Rhett unveiled some new “ink” on social media, but fans need not worry—it’s not permanent.
On Wednesday, February 12, the country music star posted an Instagram Reel showing him getting a temporary face tattoo. In the video, the 34-year-old singer is seen lying in a pink chair as a tattoo artist carefully inscribes his wife Lauren Akins’ name on his face.
As the tattoo is being applied, Thomas Rhett humorously mouths the lyrics to his hit song, All the Bars Are Closed. The country singer delivers a wink at the end of the clip, playfully hinting at the song’s romantic chorus:
“After all the bars are closed, tell me where you wanna go / We can find a place to park, open a bottle in our hearts / If you want, I’ll tell you anything you wanna know…”
In the caption, Rhett confirmed the tattoo was just for fun, writing, “They said we needed content…” signaling that the face tattoo isn’t real.
The singer also reached out to his friends in the music industry, including Post Malone, Jelly Roll, and Teddy Swims, asking for their opinions on his new temporary ink.
The tattoo reveal follows the release of Rhett’s latest album, About a Woman, which dropped in August 2024. The project, which he began working on in early 2023, was inspired by his desire to create a record that both his family and fans could enjoy. Rhett explained to PEOPLE that he wanted to make music that his wife and kids would want to dance to, unlike some of his previous albums where they would often skip tracks. He realized many of the songs on his new album were about his wife, Lauren, which influenced the album’s overall theme.
