The Borba family’s holiday season began as usual, celebrating Christmas together in Texas. However, their lives were abruptly changed on New Year’s Eve when a tragic accident left Daril Borba with severe injuries.
While riding his motorcycle home from work, Daril was unable to avoid a car that unexpectedly turned in front of him. “There were no skid marks or anything,” said his wife, Kerri Borba. “He hit the side of their car on his bike.” A photo from the scene shows Daril’s motorcycle split in half. He sustained multiple serious injuries, including a brain bleed, fractured ribs, a collapsed lung, and a cracked jaw.
Though the accident occurred in Texas, the Borba family has strong ties to California, where they found immediate support from close friends. Dresden Robinson, a tattoo artist at Sink or Swim Tattoo in Grover Beach and a long-time friend of Daril’s, was among the first to step in.
“I was scared and just wanted to make sure they were okay,” said Robinson. To help the family with medical expenses, he organized a fundraiser, offering “flash tattoos” priced between $100 and $300, with all proceeds donated to Daril’s GoFundMe campaign. Prints were also available for purchase for those who preferred not to get tattoos.
“Our friendship started through motorcycles, and it’s stood the test of time,” Robinson said. “This hit close to home for me. Daril is a great guy, a good dad, and a good husband. This was just one way I could give back.”
The fundraiser, which ran until 8 p.m., was a testament to the community’s support for the Borbas during this difficult time.
Now back home with his family, Daril faces a long road to recovery. Despite the challenges, the Borba family has expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support they’ve received.
“We’re so thankful for our friends and family who have come together for us,” Kerri said. “We don’t have the words to express how much it means.”
