As a key player for the Super Falcons, Payne has represented Nigeria 24 times since pledging her allegiance to the national team. She played a vital role in the team’s campaign for both the 2024 Olympic Games and the FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand.
The 29-year-old athlete recently revealed that her favorite tattoo is a representation of Nigeria, symbolizing her pride in her heritage and serving as a permanent reminder of her roots. In an exclusive interview with ESPN Africa, she shared, “My favorite one is the shape of Nigeria. I love this one.”
Payne explained that growing up in the United States made it difficult for her to connect with her Nigerian culture. However, her experiences with the national team and frequent visits to Nigeria have helped her forge a stronger connection. “Now, I just love to have it,” she said. “No one can question where I’m from; they don’t even have to ask; they can see.”
Through her tattoo, Payne has solidified her ties to Nigeria and its culture, reflecting her deepening connection to her roots.
